Meet Our Teachers

Katarina Fitz  Pre K

Ms. Katarina Fitz moved to Armonk with her husband and two daughters in 2019 from Brooklyn, NY. Katarina last taught as Head Teacher for the 2’s at Citibabes School in SoHo. Prior to taking a few years off to be with her children, Katarina spent six years as an Assistant Teacher at Dwight School in Manhattan teaching 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s classes. She earned her B.A in Early Childhood and Children & Youth Studies from Brooklyn College. Katarina loves spending time with her family. She believes that every child is a gift from God, unique with a spark of genius hidden inside of him/her. Katarina strives to provide a nurturing, loving environment with lots of hands-on learning  in order to help the genius in each child blossom.

Stephanie Rufo Pre K

I have lived in Thornwood  for the past 12 years with my wonderful husband, amazing two children and two great bonus children. I graduated from Baruch College with my Bba in finance with a minor in psychology. Ever since I was a child I knew I wanted to be a teacher. My parents advised me to follow a path in business but God always has a plan and lead me back to where my heart belongs. I have worked at Little Sparrows for 5 years and it is not just a nursery school but a family where your children will be taught the most important values of life and be loved as one of our own.

Marilyn Weise 2’s

Marilyn and her husband have lived in this community for over 20 years. They have three beautiful
boys, who all attended Little Sparrows Nursery School. Marilyn has a BA in Business Administration
with an art minor and a certification in interior design. It was her love of children, watching them
grow and flourish (and missing the joy of having a preschooler at home) that brought her to our staff
in 2012. During that time, she has enjoyed teaching each of our age groups. Always warm and
nurturing she encourages children to explore the world around them, explore their creativity and
gain confidence in their school setting.

Nicole Weber  4’s

A love for teaching was always in Mrs. Weber’s heart. After getting her degree in Child Study and Child Psychology at Saint Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, her journey began. She taught a variety of ages from kindergarten to junior high in Queens before having her daughter Stefanie.  Her family then moved to Westchester where her ‘little’ family happily grew into a much ‘bigger’ one with the birth of Klaus and the twins, Andreas and Johannes.  She continued her teaching career at Saint Augustine School in Ossining while raising her four children for the past 11 years.  Mrs. Weber believes that children should be taught and valued as individuals because just like snowflakes, no two are alike.

Barbara Troiano 3’s

Barbara-Ann Troiano has lived in Armonk with her husband for 30 years where they raised their three children in the Byram Hills community. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and her CDA in Early Childhood Education. She owned and operated a group family day care of her own for 20 years before joining the Little Sparrows family in 2008. “My mission as a teacher is to develop the children socially, academically and spiritually while having fun.” In her free time Barbara enjoys being outdoors, gardening, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.

Terry Cola 3’s

It is truly a blessing to be back teaching at Little Sparrows. I left some years back to open a Christian Day Care Center with a dear friend. While my degree is in Education & English for nursery through 6th grade, my niche and true calling is to teach young children. It is a wonder to watch children discover something new for the first time! I have lived in Armonk for 39 years with my husband and 4 children.  We are so fortunate to have our grown kids living in Bedford so that we can participate and watch with delight our 7 grandchildren’s activities and growth. Looking forward to a wonderful year and walking with each child, who God has made, unique and wonderful in our world.

Debbie Petfield, 4’s

Hi my name is Debbie Petfield. I’ve been married for 35 years and have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. I have been working at Little Sparrows Nursery School for 21 years. I love working with this wonderful staff as we teach these children academics and the love of God. The best thing about teaching is when I get to see the looks on the children’s faces when the lesson clicks and they “get” what we are learning about.

Meet Our Director

Lori Lofaro, Director

Lori Lofaro has lived in Pleasantville with her husband and three children for the past 25 years. She worked in the Byram Hills school district before teaching here at Little Sparrows for the past 20 years. She is so grateful in her role as Director and continues to enjoy that special connection she has with the children and their families. She attended Iona College, where she received her BBS and also has her CDA in Early Childhood Education. She is a Certified Health and Wellness Coach, who graduated from the Institute of Integrated Nutrition. “As the Director of Little Sparrows, I am truly blessed to be a part of this wonderful community and the families that have entrusted their children to us.  The entire staff believes in leading by example. To be kind, patient, forgiving and respectful toward others. I believe that teachers are like detectives. Every child learns differently and it is so important to find the learning style that will encourage and build that child’s self confidence. Their energy, silliness, fearlessness, honesty, laughter, smiles and heartfelt hugs are simply the best! I especially love the connection of family here at Little Sparrows. We are a tight knit community of people who help, encourage and pray for each other.  I hear this time and time again that the friendships that were made here have lasted throughout the years. I also get to work with the most amazing group of women who provide a warm, loving, fun and nurturing environment for our children! Our goal is to educate the whole child cognitively, emotionally, physically and spiritually.”

We welcome all to our Little Sparrows Family ~
